Lyn Boyd   (Secretary)

For the past year and a bit I have been co-ordinator for Mental Health North East which is a new organisation set up by a number of the larger mental health organisations to co-ordinate the mental health voluntary and community sector in the North East of England. I made a point of visiting a number of service user and carer organisations when I started the job and they stated their concerns about MHNE looking after the bigger organisations at the expense of the small and ,therefore, one of the first things I did was to recruit a service user organisation to the MHNE board. MHNE is now set up a bit like a trade union with me working for the members who will vote in the Board of Directors at the next meeting. MHNE members come from a wide variety of organisations and at the minute we are working on a collective bid to the Well Being, Lottery Fund, tackling the LSC about cuts in funding that have resulted in cuts in training provision to service users and recruiting service users and carers to maintain and develop the web portal - www.mhne.co.uk.
